Who Are We?

Exofly is a team of 30 members, led by a team lead and divided into four subsystems: the Controls Subsystem, the Electrical Subsystem, the Mechanical Subsystem, and the Marketing Subsystem. Each subsystem is headed by a subsystem head, and the Controls, Electrical, and Mechanical subsystems also have a group of junior engineers. The Marketing Subsystem is comprised of a head and team members.

We are working on developing a safe, noiseless, ultra-compact, near-vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) flying device. Our team is focused on designing and testing the prototype device, including its energy source and control systems, as well as managing the business activities associated with the project. Our goal is to create an efficient and innovative flying device that meets these demanding specifications.

What Have We Done So Far?

Last year, Exofly conducted an orientation for a recruitment drive for undergraduate and postgraduate students at an institute. The event had over 250 participants, and a test was administered to more than 150 registrants. We organize most of our events and seasons through the subsystem heads. Information about these events and other opportunities for involvement can be found online.

The team members at Exofly have built a strong knowledge base off skills they use in their respective subsystems. They are proficient in various software tools and are able to effectively manage their time and analyze the progress of the product. The team has been working on developing a basic prototype and conducting further research and development. This includes documentation and updates to the prototype, as well as ongoing work on software tools.

What is our Vision?

Exofly is planning to host a freshman orientation event for over 1000 students to learn about the team and its subsystems. The subsystem leaders will present on their respective areas, and there will be a fun quiz and distribution of freebies. In the near future, the team plans to complete work on a prototype and showcase it at the Gymkhana Ground, open to all institute members. At the event, team members will demonstrate the various flight paths and modes of the aircraft for the first time. Exofly is also working on the development of a scaled prototype with failsafe features, with the goal of fabricating the original device by the end of next year. The team structure is expected to remain largely unchanged in the near future.

Who are we looking for, and what's in it for you?

The different subsystems at Exofly require a diverse set of skills. The Mechanical Subsystem uses software such as SolidWorks and Ansys for simulation, while the Controls Subsystem uses Matlab and Simulink. The Electrical Subsystem is currently conducting research on topics such as diodes. In the near future, the Controls Subsystem will require knowledge of Arduino and Pixhawk, and the Electrical Subsystem will be focused on battery management. The various subsystems will also be collaborating to calculate the number of cells and total capacity of the battery needed to achieve the desired thrust and flight time for the device.
