Who Are We?

Our organization consists of 60-70 members, divided into two subdivisions: Aerove (Aerial Robotic Vehicles) and Sedrica (Self Driving Cars). The hierarchy within the organization is as follows: OCs (Organizational Coordinators) are at the top, followed by Managers, Subsystem Leads, and finally, Team Members.

Unmesh Mashruwala Innovation Cell (UMIC) is a tech team that was founded in the late 90s with the goal of introducing students to the field of robotics. The team, commonly known as UMIC, is primarily focused on the development of autonomous vehicles. Under the umbrella of UMIC, there are two main teams: AeRoVe and SeDriCa. AeRoVe is dedicated to advancing autonomous multi-copters and fixed-wing systems for search and rescue operations, while SeDriCa is focused on developing an autonomous car for Indian roads. UMIC actively participates in international competitions such as IARC (International Aerial Robotics Competition), IGVC (Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition), and ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers).

What Have We Done So Far?

We are proud to announce that Team Aerove recently had a successful performance at the IARC Mission 9 competition. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Aerove was able to persevere and come out on top as the world champions of IARC, making us the first-ever Indian team to achieve this accolade. This victory is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our team at Unmesh Mashruwala Innovation Cell (UMIC), a tech team formed in the late 90s with the goal of introducing students to the field of robotics.

What is our Vision?

At our organization, we have several opportunities for students to get involved and grow their knowledge and skills. Some of the ways we plan to do this include:

  1. Participating in live international competitions
  2. Collaborating on autonomous research projects with companies, including startups
  3. Providing a platform for students to turn their ideas into reality and learn through hands-on experiences

Our team at is continually expanding as more and more people become interested in technology and autonomous vehicles. We have secured stronger sponsorships each year and have built a strong network of alumni working in the same field. The growing global interest in autonomous vehicles only adds to our momentum. In addition to our current projects, we are considering organizing workshops, events, and lectures on the topics of autonomy and robotics for students.

Who are we looking for, and what's in it for you?

As part of their training, team members have the opportunity to learn a variety of skills, depending on their focus area. For those working in the Aerove subsystem, the following skills are emphasized:

  1. Mechatronics for designing and building the structure of the drone
  2. Controls for maintaining stability
  3. Path Planning for determining the motion of the drone
  4. Localization for navigation
  5. Machine Learning for advanced technology applications

Similarly, those working in the Sedrica subsystem focus on developing expertise in the following areas:

  1. Computer vision
  2. Localization
  3. Motion Planning
  4. Decision Making
  5. Controls

To be a successful member of our team, we look for individuals who possess enthusiasm, a love for learning, and a strong work ethic.
